1.
Twist the Knife Every time you fell It was me who picked you up And here we are again But I'm the one who's down Every time you called I was waiting by your side Only time will tell If I've wasted my time Can't get away Numb to the pain It's much too late Twist the knife in my chest As I take my last breath All this time I never left But you turned out like all the rest Did you get what you needed Before you threw me away Do you get to sleep at night Knowing what you've done If only I could see That you'd do this to me I would've left you in the dark To show you how it feels
2.
Eye for an Eye You don’t care what I have to say You won’t give me the time of day You can’t have it any other way (You wanted everything) Turn a blind eye to the fire To save what you desire But you know that you’re a liar (The blood is on your hands) Eye for an eye Blind lead the blind Running out of time to save yourself You reach into the flame Your spoils you reclaim But you’ll suffer just the same (Why don’t you understand?) You thought that this would last Shatter the hourglass But your time has come to pass (Your perfect world is burning)
3.
Walk Into the Light All these years you’ve spent Held by the chains that bind you You run from all your fears Still they find you Every time you turn around They’re right behind you Is your heart still beating? Are your scars still bleeding? Is your fire still burning? Did you stop believing? The weight of all your guilt Was more than you could take They said you’d never be More than the sum of your mistakes So look them in the eye And tell them it’s not over Open up the door and walk into the light Don’t let yourself go down without a fight
4.
Peripheral 06:03
Peripheral Can you smell the sulfur in the air? Do you feel the flames at your feet? Did you notice that your shadow follows you? Throw off those chains that are binding you You see a shadowy figure Out of the corner of your eye Shift your gaze And it is gone from sight Well, you could laugh and pretend it isn’t there But just know that will not get you anywhere And now what is that that’s crouching at your door It’s something that you’d be wise not to ignore This time by fire
5.
Explain It Away You tempt me with your crazy fantasies That go against all I’ve ever known I’ve worked for everything that I have And I know that nothing in this life is free There’s no grace, only leverage And love is a chemical And heaven’s a construct To cope with your inconsequential life And inevitable death I know we’re bound to this Earth But I don’t know why And every star collapses in time But why? You claim to have no faith But how many of life’s mysteries lie unsolved? I’m sure that you’ll find a way To explain it away You plead lack of evidence Say I have the burden of proof But isn’t existence enough? Science explains the how and no why Some phenomena can’t be explained And truth can be hard to see But I’m not one to leave stones unturned Then claim to know everything
6.
All of My Memories It hasn't been the same since you've been gone It's only been 2 years but it feels so long Since I saw you smile, since I heard you cry I still wonder why The leaves fell down all around me The stars stopped shining down on me I still wonder if you can see That you're in all of my memories I'm still waiting for you to walk through the door And I just can't take this anymore Why'd you have to go, couldn't you have stayed To wipe my tears away
7.
Ignition 03:15
Ignition (Verse 1) I didn't know what to say To get me through the day And after all, if these walls could talk They might just sing (Pre chorus) I turned the key in the ignition And said goodbye to all the pain Was it worth it in the end? (Chorus 1) This is your life Live it right It's not over till it's over And you're not done yet (Verse 2) I left the radio on Another couple of songs I heard somebody say lift up your face And saw the sun shine down (Prechorus) (Chorus 2) This is the time The time of my life I don't want to look away And miss the moment
8.
I Can’t Be The One I’m content, I am at peace I don’t expect anything I don’t get the way you look at me As if I owe you something Your opinion of me is not my responsibility I can’t reach the standards that you have set for me But you know that I’d be whatever you want me to be Whatever you need me to be If I could But your perception of me is not a reality I can’t be the one that you want me to be The one you expect me to be Just trust that if you could see what I see You’d know that it’s not meant to be And if you need a savior, don’t look at me ‘Cause I’m not the one who died on that tree But if you need a friend I could keep you company But don’t bother if you’re just using me You look around yourself and no one hears your cry And in an open sea you’re not the only one who’s sinking I’m content, I am at peace I don’t expect anything

Lost Time 07:56
I'll tell you what It doesn't get a lot better than this If I were you I'd cut your losses, tell your boss you quit We've got the time And you know I've got a little money If we run out At least you know they'll catch us running We gotta get going Before the going gets tough We gotta leave today If we wanna make it home tonight It's time to make up for lost time 'Cause paying for gas just ain't enough We're broke but at least we're breaking down Instead of saving up to stay in this old town (It's time to make up for lost time) (We're broke but at least we're breaking down) Is it enough To say it would be nice To have it all And then we never really try? What if we died Without knowing what it's like To have a dream And then watch it come to life? We can't get younger We're just growing old It's been a long day But it's gonna be a longer night If we don't make up for lost time 'Cause paying for gas just ain't enough We're broke but at least we're breaking down Instead of saving up to stay in this old town Why should we have to wait For our time to come? I can't wait another day I've got to know If we're just wasting time On broken dreams There's only one way to find out

New Day 04:44
Enamored by the smoke and mirrors You’ve found yourself misguided Now cold, alone, and in the dark Without warning, oh so scared If you cannot seem to find the will to move on I understand, know that you’re not alone Try not to look back or you might get caught in the past Keep your focus on where you are headed And if you stumble, fall, get knocked down, stressed, or overwhelmed Know that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel The light of a brand new day At times it’s hard to see the forest for the trees Hard to see past this suffering And if it seems there’s no wind left in your sails Redirect your course and you’ll find Fighting the wind left you stranded in open waters Now that you’ve turned, it will carry you home Don’t lose hope, don’t give up now Though thunder is roaring loudly Go through the eye of the storm Soon now, you will reach the shore

about

Some bands get together and have an official album within a year or two. But sometimes, a band takes a few years to really hone its craft before recording anything. Such is the case for Illinois rock band, Distant Haze. Although they did release a short EP in 2017, the year after they formed, they took another three years to put out their first full-length record. This proved to be a wise decision, as Lost Time is a strong effort. Half rock band and half jam band, Distant Haze fills each song to the brim with driving, '80s-inspired rock & roll and fiery guitar solos that bring out their Jimi Hendrix influence. The guitar work is easily my favorite aspect of the album, especially the solos, which appear in nearly every track, and sometimes comprise a third (if not more) of a song's runtime...

Ultimately, Distant Haze is one of the more promising newer artists I've come across. Lost Time is a bit of a mixed bag, but it shows that the band has what it takes to become a household name.
